Ditching Vercel

The CEO of Vercel has been posting some cringe stuff for a while; cozying up to Trump and most recently a selfie with Netanyahu. I’d been curious about giving Astro a go for a while and the selfie was the kick I needed.

So I’ve rebuilt gif.land, it’s now running on Cloudflare workers. It’s mostly static html but a few routes like random and search run as edge functions.

I have a few domains with Vercel and am in the process of moving them over to Cloudflare. But the next big thing to change is this site. It’s been around since 2021 so it’ll be nice to do a fresh redesign anyway.

Jon Heslop is a web developer based in Walthamstow, he lives with his wife Rebecca and their dog, Maude. He enjoys cycling, cooking and hanging out with friends.

Enough of the third person... I was born in London, grew up on the Wirral before coming of age in the Midlands (somehow that’s the accent that mostly stuck). I went to university in London and then spent a while in West Wales.

I’ve been building websites since I was a teenager and I have been very lucky with the places and people I’ve worked with over the years.
